Have look below at all their suggestions and when you sit back & enjoy your new book in the sun with a pair of MENOD’s x Ace & Tate sunglasses. Make sure to enjoy the summer of 2013. POOLSIDE WITH SLIM AARONSIf you’ve read our review about Once Upon a Time, you know we hesitating to describe Slim Aarons’ photography. It’s the kind of photography you need to experience – not explain. The American photographer himself once described his work as ‘photographing attractive people doing attractive things in attractive places’. What we’d like to add is that seeing those attractive people doing attractive things in attractive places do make you smile every once...

Marc Lagrange SIGNS AT MENDO

By on May 27, 2013

Right before he starts his world-wide solo exhibition, Marc Lagrange will sign his new book Diamonds & Pearls at MENDO in Amsterdam. The book, a teNeues publication, contains some of his famous works and a number of very recent series. The signing session will take place on Thursday, 30 May 2013, from 4 PM to 5 PM at MENDO, Berenstraat 11 Amsterdam. Marc Lagrange (1957, Belgium) has accomplished something rather extraordinary. He’s a photographer and he focuses on female nudes. Now, you know photography and nude women are a combination that is very much appreciated at your local garage workshop, but not often has it infiltrated in the world of fine art. With his sexy chic photography Marc Lagrange made that happen. Art aficionados have embraced the photographer and his work. Why? For that we refer to Diamonds & Pearls – the new book by Marc Lagrange and teNeues, which is...

Miles Aldridge // I Only Want You To Love Me

By on May 5, 2013

Google London based photographer Miles Aldridge and your screen will turn neon pink, mint green, bright yellow and baby blue. Now don’t think cheerful colors automatically make jolly pictures. The characters, mostly glamorous, beautiful women appear to be rather passive and ambivalent. Aldridge, however, prefers to define his women in a state of contemplation. His colorful worlds are not as perfect as they seem. There is silent screaming, broken glass, ketchup on a black and white floor. It’s a surreal dream-world that could just as easily turn into a nightmare. This book is the intimate insight into the photographer’s point of view and process. Whether you think his work is thrilling or creepy, or somewhere in between, the book’s brightness and brilliance will pop from your book shelf for...

Northern Design // Scandinavian Homes, Interiors and Designs

By on Apr 9, 2013

The best part of being a bookstore like MENDO is the treats you get on a regular base. And by treats we mean, the stunning books that are being published. One of our main treat deliverers is Gestalten. With their spot on type and relevant subjects – visual culture – 99 out of 100 new publications are a pleasure. Northern Delights, the book from Scandinavian stylist / blogger Emma Fexeus, is not an exception. Most likely because the subject – Scandinavian homes, interiors and design – fits Gestalten like a glove. Northern Delights reveals why hardly any other interior or product design is so timeless, so functional, so aesthetic and of such high quality as that of Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark. And the publisher to turn this into a book in the most immaculate way is Gestalten. This book is a little...

Tony, keep ‘em coming

By on Jan 24, 2013

Tony Nourmand and his team from Reel Art Press are the masters of the hidden treasures. At least, that is how it appears to be for me, as they keep surprising me with amazing photographic little diamonds from photographers I had never heard of. Whether that’s ignorance on my side or a unique resources quality on Tony’s, I honestly don’t know and frankly I couldn’t care less. I simply feel blessed when RAP presents me wonderful old-Hollywood browsing material like Sid Avery’s pioneer candid photography in Art of the Hollywood Snapshot, with James Dean on the set of Rebel Without a Cause, Audrey Hepburn on a bike with her pet dog and Brando taking out the garbage. Keep ‘em coming, Tony, keep ‘em coming. A little known fact about Avery: he’s the only photographer to shoot both the 1960s original cast of Ocean’s Eleven and the 2001...
