Maaike Holvast’s ‘New York Style Stories’
Written by Denise Ajanaku
After 10 years in Amsterdam working as a fashion stylist for magazines and commercials and joining Peter van Rhoon in setting up street fashion magazine ’Code’, Maaike Holvast followed her fascination for the story behind the fashion and stepped into documentary-making.
In ‘New York Style Stories’, her first project after her training at the New York Film Academy, Maaike seeks to combine touches of cinéma vérité and street-style-blogs such as ‘The Satorialist’ and ‘The Face Hunter’ to create a new form of fashion-reporting.
The first episode features Zelda, a 94-year old testament to true timeless style.
To catch an overview of the completed series of six films, drop by Mediamatic in Amsterdam on 10 december 17:00-20:00 (also showing photo-portraits by Stephen Elledge and music by Gangmakers). Otherwise check out all six chronicles on Limboland
