Out of Print // “Books on shirts. Shirts on a mission”
Out of Print is a young New York City fashion brand about to expand to Europe. It was founded in January 2010 and was created to celebrate the world’s greatest stories through fashion. Two passioned readers, Jeff LeBlanc and Todd Lawton, founded the company after realizing that much of their shared interests and conversations revolve around their favorite books and authors.
As important as books are personal expressions and community builders, Jeff and Todd felted there was a need to get more people to join the discussion. With this feeling, the idea to create a mission-driven fashion brand dedicated to celebrating the world’s greatest stories was born. Each product features an iconic book cover, with lots of these covers unavaliable these days. Not only through clothing the classic book covers will catch new light, but they offer a big range of accessories that includes graphic totes, iPhone cases and eReader jackets.
In addition to revering the world’s greatest books and their artwork, Out of Print is driven by the recognition of the developmental capacity that books play in the wider community. For every Out of Print item sold, a book is donated to a community in need through their partner Books For Africa and resulted in a donation of over 160,000 books today. For communities where books are readily available, it is easy to take for granted the power a book has to make social change. Books are the foundation to strong educational systems and are one of the most effective ways to help end the cycle of poverty and improve lives.
